We have some issues with our steps due to the fact that the steps are in a rural location and are on the north side of the house. That means that ice builds up easily and has created some issues for me as I heal from an injury which limits my mobility quite a bit. I got these to help.SIZEThese are the size of newer steps, but older or custom steps might not work as well with these, so make sure to measure steps or the spot you want to put these.WALKING ONThese are not an issue to walk on when it is not snowy or icy out so that is a bit plus for me.HOW TO MAKE THEM WORKYou will have to purchase the cord that goes with these. That means you will be required to spend another 20-30 dollars depending on the day for the cord. Once they are plugged in, when turned on, they will maintain heat to keep ice and snow melted.PERFORMANCEThe weather is getting warmer now, but we did have a day of snow and the pads had no issues keeping the steps safe to walk on for me. I will know more next winter when the more severe weather comes or if we happen to have a day or two left this season.THE BOTTOM LINEThese warming mats are very helpful for us in our situation.MY RATINGFOUR STARS. I took a star off because these should really come with the cord. Other than that, these are not hard to install, but I need to say that my husband replaced the stairs after getting these. Our steps were old and they needed to be done, so he got them so that the mats fit perfectly on the steps and the head of the new pathway he set out too. That really helps keeping them in place because the steps have grooves in them which help hold the mat in place.
